Israel launched an air and ground offensive into the only Gaza city that had not seen major military operations since the war began.
President Donald Trump signalled Friday to reporters that Israel should escalate its offensive in Gaza, accusing Hamas of not wanting a ceasefire deal following months of negotiations.
Trump is scheduled to meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland over the weekend. On Friday, Starmer called Israel's military escalation in Gaza "indefensible."
Naeema, a 30-year-old Palestinian mother, carried her malnourished 2-year-old son, Yazan, in their damaged home in the Al-Shati refugee camp on July 23. The World Food Programme said nearly one in three people in Gaza are not eating for days at a stretch and "thousands" were "on the verge of catastrophic hunger."
The aid agency says its buildings in the central part of the territory were attacked after the military targeted Deir al-Balah, which had largely been spared.
