Trade winds are bringing some light rain showers mainly to the mountainous and windward areas of Hawaii. Over the next few days, the trade winds are expected to weaken on Sunday and Tuesday as high pressure moves east.

The red flag warning remains in effect for all islands through Friday until 6 p.m. due to gusty winds and low humidity. “A dry and locally windy trade wind flow will produce critical fire weather conditions through at least Friday and possibly into Saturday. Winds will be strongest over and downwind of terrain,” according to the forecast.

Leeward portions of the state and interior sections of Hawaii Island were placed under Red Flag Warning on Thursday, July 31.
