Four years after the release of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier — which saw Anthony Mackie ‘s Sam Wilson struggling with the title bestowed on him by Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers — the star says Marvel’s latest offering finds the character as “full-fledged Captain America .”

In Anthony Mackie’s new cover story for Esquire, Chris Evans revealed he told his Marvel co-star that he was the next Captain America in the MCU. “I inadvertently was the one who got to tell him that he was going to be Captain America. I didn’t know that he didn’t know,” Evans, 43, said in the story published Thursday.

Mackie's slyly dogged Captain America has less superpower than his predecessor, and so does this movie. But it does wriggle out of superhero fatigue.
