Hundreds of human trafficking victims who were deceived and forced to work in Myanmar scam centers have been turned over to the Thai military, authorities said Thursday.

Thailand has received 260 human trafficking victims, more than half of them Ethiopians, from Myanmar, its army said on Thursday, in a massive repatriation that comes amid a mounting crackdown on scam centers operating along a porous border. Sean Hogan has more.

Bangkok has taken a number of recent measures to clamp down on the cyberfraud operations in the border region.

Another 260 foreign nationals rescued from online scam syndicates in Myanmar were handed over to authorities in Thailand on Wednesday. This came after Thailand cut power and fuel supplies to five border towns in Myanmar linked to illegal online scamming activities.
