Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer says he will hold up all Department of Justice nominations on the Senate floor until he gets more answers about the free Air Force One replacement that President Donald Trump says would be donated by Qatar.
The U.S. has grown closer to Qatar in recent years, so much so that the tiny nation has been at the forefront of high-stakes peace negotiations between global powers.
President Trump said Qatar is "giving us a gift" and "I could be a stupid person and say, oh no, we don't want a free plane."
The president announced that Qatar, a major non-NATO ally to the U.S., offered the luxury plane—known as "a flying palace"—to the Department of Defense (DOD). Trump says the aircraft is worth $400 million and the assertion has prompted fierce bipartisan pushback.
