Russia has blocked Apple's video-calling app FaceTime, the state communications watchdog said Thursday, just a day after blocking the children's gaming platform Roblox.

Popular gaming platform Roblox says it will launch its age verification system in three countries, including Australia, in the same month the federal government’s social media ban for under 16s comes in to force. The new system means users who want to privately message other players will need to verify their age.

Roblox has faced criticism for allowing youngsters to access inappropriate content and communicate with adults, and is being sued over child safety concerns in several US states. The launch also comes just ahead of Australia's social media ban for under-16s - the government is under pressure to include gaming platforms such as Roblox.
