Two people were arrested Friday in connection with a massive New Year’s fireworks explosion in Honolulu, Hawaii, that killed at least three people and injured two dozen more.

Honolulu police arrested a 33-year-old mother and a 33-year-old father Friday afternoon in connection with the Jan. 1 Aliamanu fireworks explosion that killed four people and injured dozens of others.

Right now, lighting up illegal fireworks or possession of them, is a misdemeanor. That would change to a non-criminal civil fine, like a red light ticket, under the proposed bill. One of the current efforts to reduce illegal fireworks in Hawaii.
