A Vermont federal judge has ordered the release of a Columbia University student arrested by federal agents during an interview on his U.S. citizenship.

Columbia University student Mohsen Mahdawi — detained by authorities at his naturalization interview — is free for now. He had been in prison for two weeks after his arrest earlier in April.

Legal residents — not charged with crimes or misconduct — are being arrested and threatened with deportation for stating their views on the political issues of the day,” the judge
