A gunman posing as a police officer killed a senior Democratic state assemblywoman and her husband on Saturday in an apparent "politically motivated assassination," and wounded a second lawmaker and his spouse,

The suspect is accused of fatally shooting Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, at their home. He also shot Minnesota state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, at their home — but they survived the attack.

Vance Boelter was captured in a wooded area on Sunday night, and charged in the shootings of two state lawmakers and their spouses. He appeared in federal court after being charged with murder.
