US Federal Reserve (Fed) chair Jerome Powell is asking the US central bank's inspector general (IG) to review the costs involved in the renovation of its historic headquarters in Washington, as Trump administration officials intensify their criticism of how the Fed is being run.

A source familiar with the matter told Axios that Powell directed Inspector General Michael Horowitz to examine the project’s costs.
