The body of a woman was caught in the nets of a fishing boat off the coast of Massachusetts last week, and officials now believe she was buried at sea.

The dead body that fishermen caught off the Bay State coast was reportedly a woman who had cancer and was buried at sea, according to investigators. Massachusetts State Police assigned to Suffolk DA Kevin Hayden’s office, along with the U.S. Coast Guard, responded last week to a fishing vessel in Boston that reported pulling in a body in its nets.

The unnamed fishing vessel was working about 40 miles off the coast of Boston Friday morning when the crew discovered the body after reeling in the boat’s fishing nets.

Authorities said that the deceased person, a woman, is unlikely to be identified and found there were "no indications of foul play."

Authorities determined the body belonged to a woman in her 60s who had numerous cancerous tumors, the DA's office said.

An investigation is underway after a “wrapped” body in a “state of decomposition” was hauled out of the water by fishermen off Massachusetts, authorities announced on Sunday.
