KCSO says scammers are targeting people by pretending to be law enforcement and then pressuring the victims into buying Bitcoin.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a recent jury summons phone scam where someone is claiming to be from the sheriff’s office and asks for payment via cryptocurrency. According to the department,

The Montgomery Sheriff’s Office is advising residents of a new scam. Residents are reporting that they receiving letters from scammers portraying as a known business. The Sheriff said the letters promise many forms of payment if residents purchase gift cards from the company.
