As Detroit police, city leaders, and community advocates work to tackle the summer surge in gun violence, one grieving grandmother is stepping up in a deeply personal way.

Local swimmers are preparing to swim 411-miles from Lake Superior to Detroit to commemorate the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald 50 years ago.

The changes will reduce the time it takes restaurant owners to get licensed by roughly two months, officials said.
