Mar 13, 2007 · I'm having a hard time finding info on a SB with 15" swing, so any info will be helpful. Are you sure this lathe is a 15" swing? Go to this website to reference a huge list of serial numbers listing the years...your serial number places the lathe in the year 1937. Give them the serial number 73622...they can get you started. Apr 19, 2016 · Question is, I just aqquired a South Bend Lathe that is tagged as 15" swing, Length of bed 6' Catalog no 8114C. Appears to be very old with the glass oiler on top side of spindle cap closest to chuck.

Dec 10, 2018 · I have what is I believe an unusual South Bend lathe. 15” swing (it measures 7 1/2” from center of spindle to top of ways) 8’ bed, gap bed with bridge installed. Model 37-e (model 137 with gap bed?) Serial number 22481, so made in 1921-22. The lathe is using a geared 4 speed electric motor from Lima for drive.

The models in between were available with 13", 15" and 16" swings over the bed and with between-centres capacities ranging from 16 to 64 inches. Prices started at $585 for the short bed version and went up to $810 for the longest.

Used Southbend Nordic 15” x 40”cc Engine Lathe #GMT-2211. Features include 15" swing over bed, 40" between centers, 2-1/8" spindle bore, and 7.5 HP motor. Comes with center, Jacobs drill chuck, 9” 3-jaw chuck, threading dial, machine manual, and coolant pump & tank.

15" swing steady rest. Unsure of what machine this came off of. It came with a machine we purchased but does not fit. One of the screws is tweaked and missing one finger as shown. One of the options offered by South Bend during the 1920s and 1930s was their "High Swing" range. These lathes used standard beds, headstocks, carriage and tailstock units, but with the centre height raised by a set of cast-iron blocks.
