After Atomic Test Blunder, U.S. Allowed Human Radiation Studies
Dec 2, 2024 · The first people known to have been exposed to radiation by the U.S. Navy in San Francisco were part of an atomic cleanup crew. Wrapped in cotton overalls and clunky gas masks, with pockets sewn shut and canvas booties covering their shoes, workers from the Navy’s shipyard at Hunters Point in late 1946 began to board ships irradiated by an atomic bomb test over the summer.

State Approves Closing SF’s Great Highway to Cars
Dec 12, 2024 · The California Coastal Commission on Thursday approved a permit that will allow San Francisco to close a section of the Great Highway to car traffic permanently. The permit allows the city to close the roadway to cars between Lincoln Way and Sloat Boulevard — known as the Upper Great Highway — as early as spring 2025.
