Everyone gets a little jealous when they see Audrey having her breakfast.... 🦇 Between our mealworms, supplements, and fresh produce, we spend approximately $1500 a week to feed our over 600 non-releaseable bats. This bill is only going to go up as we enter into bat pup season, as each pup species requires their own specific multi ingredient milk formula. Donations like yours help us care for these miraculous little animals, and ensure they are given the care they deserve. ❤️ | Bat World Sanctu

This curious short tailed fruit bat decided to come check out what I was doing during tonight’s lettuce time before taking off to go join the rest of her colony again. I certainly don’t mind having a little helper! 😁 *Never touch a bat bare handed! We are trained and vaccinated to handle bats. Snack time for the rescued fruit bats! 🦇 These cuties come to us from all sorts of places, but most commonly they are surrendered by zoos, laboratory research studies, and from the cruel exotic pet trade. Fruit bats are not native to the United States, and as these bats were all born in captivity, they cannot be returned back to the wild. Once they arrive here, they have a forever home. We never loan out or transfer our fruit bats to other organizations or zoos, they are here for life! As cute

Its $5 Friday! 😀 This is our sweet rescued girl, Tinkerbell. ❤ Tink is a 12-year-old Jamaican fruit bat. Her mother was one of the many unfortunate bats that had become part of the exotic pet trade, where bats live short lives of loneliness and terror. She died giving birth to her daughter. When Tink arrived, she was, as is heartbreakingly common for bat pups whose mothers have died in childbirth- still clinging to her mom’s body. Tink was hand-raised at Bat World and despite the traumatic even

A handful of sleeping Eastern red bat babies to make your Monday a little bit better. 🥰 Don't forget- NEVER handle bats barehanded! We are trained and vaccinated, and sometimes handle bats (especially babies) without gloves for better control and sensitivity. Evening bats are NOTORIOUS for roosting in patio umbrellas⛱️. Because of this, we put up the Official Bat World Sanctuary Patio Umbrella for Convaleced Evening Bats ™️. Daphne is the first bat to be released in the umbrella. After suffering a wing injury from a blue jay she was brought to the sanctuary, despite her NUMEROUS protests. While healing, she made it known that she did NOT like anyone of us by screaming every chance she got. Now she’s healed and gained her strength back so she can once

Most of you already know that we're never quite sure what we're going to see when we open the clinic insect bat enclosure door. It's a Scrumpy kind of morning... Scrumps is a 6 week old short tailed fruit bat, whose mother was rescued from a zoo. He was born after his mother arrived at the sanctuary. While bats are typically wonderful mothers, sometimes the stress of transfer can cause them to drop their babies- and that's what happened with this little guy. Thankfully, our staff is well equipped to hand raise bat pups of all species! Scrumpy is now getting older, and transitioning onto solid foods. He's even starting to

𝐒𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬! We just had to share Agave in his full-on leaf stealth mode! (That's the scientific name for it, you know 😉) To roost more safely, a red bat curls into his butt blanket (aka, tail membrane) and tucks his wings and head in tightly. To finish off the camouflage, he hangs from one leg. This stance makes red bats appear superficially like a dead or fall leaf and helps to hide them from daytime predators like blue jays and crows. Your donations help us save,

Oh dear, someone clearly lied about completing Flight School. 😆 Don’t worry, this little guy is okay! Our bat castle has a soft floor for oopsies just like this, and staff was there to quickly scoop him up. It happens to the best of us, and the only thing that was hurt was his pride. Even though he was flying great when tested before his release, it’s back to school for this bat. Next time we hope he gets to see more sky and less ground. 🤣 | Bat World Sanctuary
